Diets and Longevity

Is there any relationship between diet and longevity? We have all heard the old proverb "You are what you eat", but have you ever stopped to think exactly how true that is? Simply, healthy eating is a key to well-being. We are made up of up to 100 trillion cells, each cell requires nutrients supply daily to achieve its function. The longevity can be affected both positively or negatively by our diets.
The most beneficial diets rely heavily on fruits, vegetables and legumes that they are low in calories and packed with nutrients. For example, nuts are cholesterol-free protein sources, and are worthy substitutes for fatty meats. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that in a group of nearly 35,000 women, those who ate foods rich in vitamin E, including nuts, lowered their risk of having stroke.
On the other hand, diets with high carbohydrates and fat are associated with obesity. Being overweight stresses the heart, blood vessels and joints, accelerating age-related diseases. There is also strong relationship between high cholesterol-consisting diets, and heart diseases. Thus, decreasing the longevity.
However, cutting a few hundred calories a day from regular eating plan may help in living longer.
